In the New York Times this month, there was an extensive six-page article on the death of an ordinary, elderly man named George Bell. This man did not do anything of substantial importance to receive that type of coverage in the New York Times; he was a person who lived in Queens, New York, and kept to himself. He had no close relatives or friends, and his estate ended up going through over a year of probate. Yet, we have a lot that we can learn from him, regarding the importance of maintaining estate planning documents and reaching out to those who may be reclusive and alone: an increasingly common situation in which the aging population are finding themselves.
We wrote some comments on the article and posted it on our website, which we hope that you find informative, especially since eldercare is becoming more and more critical.
